My work consists of brightly coloured portraits done in gouache, acrylic or oil on wood canvas. I aim not to capture meaning but rather to conceptualise discomfort and the perception of the human figure. I love to implement aspects of the human form in various ways, typically through utilising the face as the focal point. I incorporate sculptural aspects into my work in the form of carving and reworking wooden canvas in order to divert from conventionally shaped surfaces. I like to have fun with my paintings so I often use bright colours and elements of nature to enhance the original work. Notable inspiration comes from ceramic work and surrealist pop art styles.
