Wendy using the principles and techniques of traditional classic painting explores the exquisite and inherent beauty of objects and other favourite things in her still life paintings exhibited at Blackman Gallery, Clare, located in the scenic Clare Valley of SA Mid North.

Wendy has focused her creativity on three predominant genres at different times in her 40 plus years as a full time artist; Landscape, Portraiture and Animals.

Inspired by her partner, Rodney, who is an antiquarian and their combined love of antiques and collectibles, plants and flowers Wendy has taken on this new challenge of Still Life painting with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation of the inherent beauty of objects, materials, plants and other favourite things in her ever increasing collection of beautiful and much loved favourites.

Techniques Wendy uses in her paintings is completing a detailed drawing of her chosen Still Life set up, which she then transfers onto professional quality art boards. Before she begins her final painting she carefully selects her palette of colours, and paints a small monochromatic tonal study to help her understand the way the finished painting will look and also to assist her to highlight specific issues she  needs to address. Another technique Wendy uses is to build up  the painting by layers, using paint applied direct by brush and transparent glazes to enhance and create focal areas. Each layer is meticulously applied by Wendy as she considers the tone, colour and the overall composition and effect. Every subsequent layer Wendy refines  the painting further until she is satisfied that the painting is complete, interesting and engaging to the eye and mind of the viewer.

To know more about Wendy’s paintings she will be available in person for you to ask questions and talk about the exhibition, individual paintings, and her techniques and inspirations at the opening of the exhibition on Sunday July 27th at 1pm. Also Wendy will be at the Gallery every Saturday of August from 12 midday to 2pm to spend time talking to visitors about her art. Everyone  is warmly invited and welcomed by Wendy and Julie from Blackman Gallery to these events and to view the exhibition anytime throughout SALA Festival. All of Wendy’s paintings are available for purchase.
