Through the 'kitchen sink' we explore what is washed away or lingers within the relational space of the sink, revealing the layered intersections of gender, power, and colonisation.
Traditionally, the 'kitchen sink' is perceived as a site of domestic chores, gatherings, shared stories, and everyday life. However, beneath this seemingly benign surface lies a more complex reality: a metaphorical convergence of women and water, each experiencing colonisation - physically, psychologically, and environmentally. Historically, both have been controlled, commodified, and polluted, resulting in harm that disrupts relationships among humans, and between humans and the non-human world.
As artists we engage with the unseen - what is absorbed, what is silenced, and what inevitably resurfaces. Together, our works create a dialogue between the personal and the ecological, the domestic and the structural, making visible the slow, insidious forces that shape our environments and lives.
