Exhibition
A group of five emerging artists keen to share our explorations of the effects of light and colour across mixed media and painting. Our differing approaches are brought together by slowing down and questioning our sensory experience as we consider our environment. Each artist has a different approach to the subject matter.
Tash explores historical narratives and how they relate to our contemporary lives in this series of paintings where she has inserted herself as the problematic protagonist in the depiction.
Anne explores mark making and erasure and the suggested patterns that emerge from this process. The results reflect the world around us as well as investigating the less visible scientific domain.
Katie uses painting to describe a time when familiar and unfamiliar worlds coexist. This strange, unsettled world triggers an exploration into ideas outside the realm of our five senses, concerning other worldliness and transcendence.
Shalini explores the effect of afternoon light and quiet contemplation of home environments. Highlighted by the fall of natural light, these overlooked items in the domestic space hold memories, events, experiences, and family life her paintings describe the light as it shines across the objects of the everyday, creating shapes, shadows and form.
Rose depicts scenes that question our experience of aging. By disrupting this she contests ageist stereotypes, foregrounding the complex identities and rich, messy lives of older women in today’s world.
