Germ is a group show built on call and response collaboration. Ideas often grow and stretch from some small thought or moment, like seeds waking up in dark soil and sporelings exhaling themselves into new life. Germ explores what happens when we take in another artist’s work, hold it, rub up against it, consider it, pull it apart, build from it, until something new tumbles out. Germination as inspiration, as the creative process, as connection and collaboration with each other.

The work in this show was facilitated through a chain of call and response. Each artist created new work starting with a moment, idea, theme or aesthetic in another artist’s practices. In this way a chain of inspiration and interpretation bleeds throughout the exhibition. Like pollen and spores on air, like seeds held in soil, ideas germinate and spread. Can you spot where an idea starts? Can you follow the thread between each artist and throughout the space?
