In 2024 the extended Jagt family asked itself 'are we weird enough?' and answered via their SALA debut group show, Not Even Close.
In 2025 they return, claiming to be A Little Bit Closer.
It's still a confusing mix of impressionist landscapes and surreal motifs - skeletal birds, doorways, Aztecs, boobs - but patriarch / publican John Jagt has upped his own ante. "Why don’t you put a little guy in the corner there?’" is his latest advice to any artist who'll listen.
Be it Lucie Jagt's emotional oils, or Alana Jagt's affectionate native fauna portraits, John insists that the 'little guys' that inhabit his own paintings would improve his daughters' works (and in fact, any other works by any other artist).
To decide for yourself, head to the beautiful and historic Three Brothers Arms Hotel (yeah, it's the 'artsy' pub) in picturesque Macclesfield. Eat. Drink. Sit by the fire. Drink some more. You may start to feel a little closer to weird yourself....
