Raw & Refined celebrates the expressive power and emerging voices of young artists from St Martins Lutheran College. This exhibition brings together two contrasting yet complementary bodies of student work: the vivid, imaginative sculptures inspired by Mexican folk artist Pedro Linares, and a series of intricate, observational drawings inspired by famous portrait artists.

Drawing on the fantastical world of alebrijes—vibrant, hybrid creatures created by Linares—students have explored form, colour, and cultural storytelling through sculpture. Alongside these dynamic pieces are highly detailed drawings, showcasing students’ technical skill, patience, and developing artistic precision.

Together, these works reflect the dual nature of artmaking: the wild energy of creation and the careful refinement of detail. Raw & Refined invites the public to witness the evolving talents of these young artists as they explore identity, imagination, and artistic growth.
