As everyday items lying in close proximity to the body, the use of domestic textiles such as accessories and linen offer a medium to subvert notions of home and belonging. Approaching this body of work from a deeply personal perspective using artefacts belonging to my family as critical sites for meaning making, I position these items as transitional objects to mitigate a sense of alienation experienced as a consequence of moving homes. Interrupted by stitches that take the form of steps, sutures and seeds, these ‘evocative objects’ are sharp and stoic reminders of the impact of leaving one's place and arriving at another entirely unfamiliar place to call it home.
