Step back in time through hand-painted depictions of the halftone ink printed pages of the supermarket catalogues from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, and the histories attached to each product and brand. These nostalgic artefacts offer a window into a bygone era, capturing the everyday aspirations and purchasing power of mid-century consumers.

In today’s world, where the cost of living has surged and inflation impacts our daily lives, these catalogues serve as both a historical document and a poignant reflection. As we flip through their pages, we’re reminded of a time when a modest budget stretched further, and the act of shopping was imbued with a sense of abundance.

This exhibition juxtaposes these cherished pop culture products with contemporary realities, inviting viewers to contemplate how the landscape of consumption has evolved. Through this exploration, we seek to understand the enduring impact of economic change on our daily lives and find a deeper appreciation for the simple pleasures and relative ease of the past.

Join me in this reflective journey, where yesterday’s supermarket shelves speak to today’s economic challenges, offering insight and inspiration for navigating the complexities of modern life. Sometimes to move forward, we must be willing to look back.
