Christine GOODWIN
Finding a 1947 handwritten letter glued inside a second-hand book by Daisy Bates, welfare worker and anthropologist, addressed to Mary Norman-Bail, artist and principal of a private school in Ararat, sparked a journey of discovery for Christine Goodwin. Her research culminated in a multimedia artwork, featuring delicate ceramic works symbolizing the two women. Plants and flowers associated with Daisy and Mary illustrate aspects of their personalities and passions. SA’s west coast landscapes are contrasted with forests of the Grampians region of Victoria, through a range of clay making techniques. An informative display of research material provides contextual background to the exhibition.
