Joshua Smith is a miniaturist and sculptor known for his hyper-detailed models of urban spaces and overlooked corners of city life. Once a year, on April Fools' Day, he flips his practice by creating a single 'large object' — an everyday item blown up to an unexpectedly monumental scale. These annual pranks keep his social media following on their toes

At Gallery Flaneur, a literal hole-in-the-wall gallery, Smith exhibits a giant Bic lighter, enlarged precisely 12 times. In a clever twist, the real lighter that inspired the work sits inside a miniature replica of the gallery itself, housed within the cabinet. By shifting scale and context, Smith transforms the mundane into the monumental, inviting us to see the familiar in new, playful, and strangely intimate ways.

There will be a very brief opening event at 5pm on Friday 1 August (approx 20 mins)
Gallery Flaneur is a window display viewable 24/7 from the street at the corner of Fisher Place & Gawler Place (just off Rundle Mall in Adelaide) and is supported by the City of Adelaide.
