Paper dolls do not go away they are and have been accessable to all, still a favourite pastime and sought after collector's item.
In 900, Japan used them in ceremonial activities. Later in Europe for entertainment of high society to ridicule nobility. In 1800;s they start to appear worldwide.
Haute couture Houses made hand painted paper dolls to model latest designs.
1780's dressing self drawn images using pure imagination to play dress ups. Affordable, news papers and magazines included them and later famous people inspired and appeared as dolls, movie stars etc.
We now see Star Wars dolls and Prince William.
They are all "about the art as well". Each doll has it's own personality with endless possibilities.
Introduced to them as a child I have made my own dolls many times from magazines and this exhibition has been generated by this idea and to show some of my collection. In particular a recent one I have made in my own impression.
All welcome, young and old to come and play, feel that childhood joy.
