Exhibition, Artist Talk
Hill Smith Art Advisory presents Deaf in One Eye, an exhibition of new work by Matthew Quick premiering as part of SALA Festival 2026, with fresh animations in ILA's Immersive Studio of his earlier works, realised by award winning creatives Monkeystack. Tickets available online or at the door.

Artist statement
Deaf in One Eye was born from one of the seminal moments in art history: Maurizio Catellan’s Comedian. Not only was this readymade piece not crafted by a person, but it was also perishable. The sole value came from the artist’s selection of the item.

This raised questions of how value is constructed and maintained within contemporary art – and the powers that determine what is celebrated or not.

About the artist
Matthew Quick is an award-winning Australian artist. A narrative conceptual realist, his paintings and sculptures provoke and tell stories. Matthew has been named in Business Review Weekly as one of Australia’s top 50 artists. For more information and enquiries, please visit Hill Smith Art Advisory.
