Studio printmakers and sisters-in-law Jenny Clapson and Janet Ayliffe have created art together since graduating from South Australia School of Art in 1972.
Jenny is a highly respected, now retired artist whose paintings, linocuts and etching have been deeply inspired by the experience of living a rural lifestyle on Kangaroo Island for 40 years.
Janet, who was born on the island, where she lived for 18 years, is an award winning printmaker and painter. Janet looks into the natural world with wonder and reverence, as she does with her inner life, combining and layering these in a unique visual expression.
Both artists are represented in public and private collections in Australia and internationally. For more than four decades the “sisters” have participated with other studio artists to side by side to actively support each other’s practice.
Since 2010 both have regularly exhibited Kangaroo Island themed etchings for the popular, and highly anticipated annual “How Do We Love Thee?” Exhibition at National Wine Centre, reprised in this special showing this year.
