SALA Festival runs throughout the month of August annually, so 1—31 August every year.
SALA is an open access festival meaning that all artists and venues are welcome to participate. To be included in the program all you need to do is register an exhibition or visual arts event (such as an artist talk, workshop, or forum) via our online form, 1 March — 15 May 2017.

Exhibition registrations for the 2017 festival open 1 March and close 15 May. Artist and venue expressions of interest will close the week before, on 8 May.
If you are an artist looking for a venue to exhibit in you can browse our Available Venues list which is online until a week before registrations close. You can then contact the venues directly to make enquiries. Alternatively you can add your details to the Available Artists page so venues can contact you directly.

2—10 artists — $215.00
11 — 20 artists — $310.00

SALA Street (multiple venues in the one street, venue names will not be listed individually however multiple stickers will be provided) — $450.00

The SALA program is inserted into The Advertiser with a distribution of over 250,000 as well as to regional visitor information centres, libraries and all participating venues. For your registration fee you will receive exposure to a wide audience via the print and online program. You will also receive copies of the program, SALA posters and a venue sticker as well as the right to use the SALA logo on your own promotional materials.
The Festival is promoted across print, radio, television and social media. You will also receive opportunities to advertise with our media partners and on our website in addition to your exhibition listing. In addition to this you will receive an invitation to the SALA Festival launch at the Art Gallery of South Australia with the opportunity to network with businesses, other artists and the arts industry. Being in the SALA Festival provides you with association with a reputable and recognised brand as a key event in the South Australian festival calendar.
Once you’ve registered your exhibition on our website you can pay instantly via a PayPal payment gateway. Alternatively you can pay via electronic funds transfer, cheque or cash.

Yes, there are no restrictions on how many venues an artist can exhibit in.
It is the responsibility of the artist and the venue to make sure there is public liability insurance for the installation of the exhibition, the exhibition period, and for de-installation. This insurance covers the risk of a member of the public injuring themselves through the action of the artist or the venue and any equipment/art work within the space.
The cost of insurance depends on the amount of hazardous elements, the amount of expected audience and the features that are in the venue. SALA does not cover your insurance for your venue. It is recommended that in addition to public liability you look into insuring the artwork itself and any volunteers on site. If you hire any staff for any reason, you will need to look at work cover requirements.

All SALA awards are self-nominated. To be considered for an award make sure you fill out an entry form before close of nominations on 24 May. You must be participating in the 2017 SALA Festival to be eligible for the 2017 awards.
The 2017 award nominations close 24 May 2017. The Patron’s Art Writer’s Award closes 31 August 2017.
