SALA x Foodland bags
SALA Festival have again teamed up with Foodland to produce limited edition tote bags featuring the artwork of three South Australian artists. The bags are available to purchase from all Foodland Supermarkets across the state during the SALA month of August. 50c from each bag sale goes to the SALA fund, allowing them to continue to create paid opportunities for South Aussie artists.
We’re excited to announce the featured artists on the 2024 Foodland bags are Amanda Westley, Eliza Koch and Lucinda Penn.

This painting tells the story of my 2017 Kokoda trail journey. I was fortunate enough to be a worker at one of the chosen schools to attend the Kokoda trail on a special Reconciliation Trek (in collaboration with Reconciliation SA). Myself, two students and a Deputy Principal represented our school and were allocated an Aboriginal soldier to research for the trek.
We began physical training 1 year out from the trek commencing and researched our soldier, Harold West in as much detail as we could find. The journey I took on this trek, was both physical, mental and spiritual. I felt so honoured to be able to tell Harold’s story and to have a memorial at the point on the track he lost his life.
Each campsite on this painting, represents a village or resting place we stopped at along the track.
The Kokoda trail was transformative for my own personal growth. I feel so proud of the fact I was able to complete the trek, but also that I was able to bring awareness to the bravery and story of Harold West, who was killed on the track. I saw so many similarities between our culture and the Papua New Guinea culture.
I would like to dedicate this painting to the bravery of Harold West.
Caitlyn lives on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, with her husband Dale and beautiful little boy Dusty. She is an up and coming contemporary artist who uses her art to connect with her Country and culture.
“I have always been a creative person but it wasn’t until I followed my passion for painting, that my true creative joy was unlocked. Painting is a way for me to connect back to my ancestors and to feel connected to country, even when I am far away from it. I truly see it as my gift and I love being able to share that with others.” – Caitlyn
Christopher Meadows
In this painting I chose to celebrate the wide range of birdlife that often inhabit our suburban backyard spaces. Often these birds are active and fleeting visitors to our gardens, attracted by the plant life and the sustaining appeal of water. At other times birds may take the form of permanent and static representations of more exotic varieties. Each in their own way they add to the character and visual appeal of this unique domestic environment.
Christopher Meadows has worked as an artist, educator and illustrator, both in Australia and overseas. His passion for figurative art is evident in both his painting and sculptural practice. While using traditional mediums and techniques, he aims to create images and forms that evoke a sense of recognition and memory. His paintings are often inspired by natural and constructed elements that are found within domestic and suburban environments.

I hope the viewer will notice the shimmer of light sparkling through the petals of the wisteria flowers. I hope they can take time to reflect that beauty is ever present.
The awareness of beauty has an uplifting power, It can quiet the mind, calm anxiety and stir a reverence for the complexity and mystery of life.
Beauty is all around, it is important, it is enough, and we just need to awaken to it.
Katrina has always lived in Adelaide. Starting her working life as a potter, with her own pottery, gift and florist shop, located at South Plympton, which traded for 35 years.
Katrina has always loved flowers. The flowers life is short lived, and Katrina loves the idea of capturing their image in a painting. Putting that image on a shopping bag is a permanent reminder that beauty can be everywhere.
