Louise Flaherty was invited to work with Lobethal Primary to explore growth, regeneration and the children’s connection with nature. Louise’s art practice is focused on researching remnant native vegetation and engaging people’s curiosity in the natural world. For this project Louise researched and found 12 native plants of conservation significance in Bushland Park. As a starting point students focused on drawing and exploring those plants using similar techniques and approaches that Louise uses as a part of her practice. During the four days of workshops the children were also asked to share their stories and memories of Bushland Park which they represented through drawings. This resulted in a collection of diverse drawings displayed as a large scale vinyl mural in the local community.
