Hi my name is Donna and I am a South Australian artist. I did not become an artist through schooling. This is how my story started.
Firstly, I am not saying this for everyone to feel sorry for me because now that I look back on it, this was probably something that saved my life and I love what I do now, it was a blessing.
Due to a medical problem (TIA) 10 years ago, it became impossible for me to work in mainstream employment.
I wanted to feel useful and get my self-worth back, so my husband, David, reminded me that years ago I loved to sketch, he suggested I did it again.
I am not going to lie it was not easy, I had loss strength in my left side, I found it difficult to problem solve, had short term memory loss, blackouts and there were certain words I could not say, but I was determined to make this work.
So, 10 years later I have a business, with my own studio and do resin wall art, homeware goods, furniture, sculptures and teach people to art. I love teaching, giving back helping people feel really good when they have made an artwork piece, the smile on their faces, there is nothing like it. warms my heart.
Being self- taught means that I know very few boundaries within my work. I have had the freedom to do my artwork my way, which allows me to produce exciting elements within my artwork.
I enjoy and teach all forms of art and we use all forms of mediums. I love challenges so my art is continuously evolving.
So far, I have had artwork in 30 exhibitions, entered a couple of competitions and won 3 awards. I was lucky enough to be interviewed several times on local radio and asked to do a painting for an exhibition with the Government project Torrens to Torrens in South Australia. They did an article with regards to my painting.
Painting gives me the ability to express my thoughts and emotions in my own unique way.
