Asha Southcombe is an emerging artist and curator living on Kaurna Country. Their creative practice is heavily based around the act of mark making, working across different drawing mediums including graphite, pen and scratchboard. In 2021 they graduated from Honours in Art and Design at UniSA after completing their Bachelor of Contemporary Art in 2020.

Drawing from the critical theory of queer ecology, Asha’s work reflects on their interest in mycology, botany and interactions between the human and more-than-human. Their practice often integrates personal elements too, referencing spaces they know, have walked themselves and reflection during the meditative act of mark making.

Across 2022 Asha’s work was exhibited in the Helpmann Graduate Exhibition, Fleurieu Arthouse SALA Exhibition, Gallery M Contemporary Art Prize and the Guildhouse ARTWORKS exhibition Life Lines. They were also commissioned to create a work as the emerging artist for the Kedumba Drawing Award in NSW, and from January - March 2023 Asha was a resident at Sauerbier House in Port Noarlunga, SA hosting their first solo exhibition Entanglement during the month of April. Asha is also a current co-director of FELTspace, and works in a number of roles across the arts sector and with young people. She also just finished her role as the 2024 Helpmann Academy Project Curator.
